Eklavya Model Residential School
Sukhi Parivar Foundation (SPF), in association with Tribal
Department of Government of Gujarat is setting up ‘Eklavya Model Residential
School’ on a Public-Private-Partnership (PPP) model in Kawant taluka,
Gujarat. The aim of this project is to impart quality and value-based
education for tribal boys and girls. The Memorandum of Understanding (MoU)
between Sukhi Parivar Foundation and Gujarat State Tribal Development
Residential Educational and Institution Society (GSTDREIS) has already been
signed for development of this project.
LocationKawant
Taluka, is the most backward tribal region of Vadodara district in Gujarat.
Successive governments have neglected this tribal region. Kawant taluka
which has 133 villages has just eight secondary schools and one higher
secondary school. Tribals have to struggle hard to get education. Hence, SPF
is setting up the Eklavya School in this region to enable tribal students to
have access to quality education.
The projectThe
proposed school will be affiliated to CBSE,
New Delhi. The co-ed school will teach from 6th
Std. to
XII Std with 11th and 12th for science stream
with the medium of instruction being English. The minimum age for admission
to the school will be 10-12 years. The school shall have a capacity for 450
residential and 100 day boarders’ students.
The aims and objects of this school are -
- To provide quality education to tribal children
- To provide financial assistance to academically brilliant students
- To develop positive thoughts among students and hone their abilities
- To enable students to participate in various contests, such as
drawing, essay writing, singing, sports, etc. and competitive
examinations at state and national level.
- To develop a well-rounded personality of students
Facilities
To
be built across seven acres, the residential school shall have a total
built-up area of 11735 sq. meters, which will have the following amenities:
- Classrooms of international standards
- Administrative office
- Science and computer labs
- Well-equipped libraries
- Furnished boys and girls hostels.
- Equipped kitchen and dining hall.
- Residential facilities for the principal, teachers and
working staff
- Indoor and games facilities
- Play grounds for outdoor games.
The inaugural foundation stone of the school was
laid by Honorable Chief Minister of
Gujarat
,
Shri Narendra Modi. Work on the school building has been completed and work on the hostel buildings have already commenced and is expected to complete in six months. As of now more
than Rs 2.5 Crores of expenditure has been incurred. have already commenced.
Means of Finance
The total cost of the project is Rs 10.50 crore out of which the Gujarat State
Tribal Development Residential Educational and Institution Society (GSTDREIS)
shall contribute 7 crore of the total project cost while SPF’s contribution
shall be 3.5 crore. The running expenses of the school will be borne by SPF and
the Tribal Department jointly.
